Technical Support Engineer required for the close-knit 2nd/3rd line application support team of this global market-leading business focused on the digitalisation of industry.

Based on customer site in Wokingham, the technical support engineer will be part of a highly-skilled and close-knit team, equipped to provide first-class system support for their customers ranging from database issues to coding; in order to minimise system downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acting as a first point of contact for customer issues, working closely with colleagues across the business in order to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Taking ownership of technical support cases, working with customers to gather information, investigate, diagnose and resolve issues
  • Liaising with colleagues in international offices for further 2nd/3rd level support
  • Handling emergency calls via call centre
  • Providing assistance with the installation and testing of patches onto customer systems
  • Configuration management, system tuning, database cleansing, pro-active system monitoring and other general system administration duties
  • Providing advice and assistance with system upgrade planning
  • Facilitating relationships between the customer and 3rd party vendors
  • Providing strategic advice on end-of-life hardware items
  • Involvement with Six Sigma ACFC projects (At the Customer, For the Customer) with a key focus on service improvement
  • Supporting with planning, coordination, logistics and performance

Requirements:

  • Degree in Computing, Software Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience working in a software/IT support environment
  • Strong programming experience in C/C++, Java and SQL
  • Shell scripting experience
  • Experience working with Linux and Windows Operating Systems
  • ITIL Foundation
  • Experience of problem analysis, identification and resolution

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in energy and utilities sector
  • Experience in Git / Clear Case / Configuration Management systems
  • Excellent customer communication skills
  • Experience of picking up and installing fixes on live customer systems
