An excellent opportunity to join the Finance team of this Edinburgh based plc as Tax Senior Manager

Reporting to Head of Reporting, Tax & Treasury, you will take the lead on the delivery of accurate tax accounting and returns

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in the business to act as a business partner ensuring products and transactions are reviewed and reported correctly and all key business decisions are made with full knowledge of the potential tax implications.  VAT is particularly important in this regard given the transactional nature of the tax and the day to day activities of the business which are predominantly exempt.
  • Managing the VAT compliance obligations which includes overseeing the partial exemption special method and the capital goods scheme adjustments as applicable. 
  • Leading and managing third party service providers to oversee the production of accurate and timely Corporation Tax returns
  • Overseeing completion of operational tax returns to HMRC in accordance with HMRC guidance and legislation
  • Ensuring timely submission of all relevant tax returns to HMRC and ensuring that the organisation declares and settles all of its tax liabilities as they fall due
  • Leading liaison with HMRC and investigating and resolving any tax queries that may arise from time to time.
  • Leading liaison with Group Tax to build and maintain working relationship and ensure timely input from Group Tax to review of VAT and CT returns
  • Ensuring tax opportunities and efficiencies are identified and pursued to the extent they align with the commercial objectives of the Bank
  • Delivering accurate tax accounting under IFRS
  • Delivering high quality month end and half year/year end reporting of the consolidated tax position of the busines to support reporting to Group Finance and externally
  • Ensuring tax implications of new standards are understood and reflected in the results
  • Identifying and delivering improvements in processes, systems and controls to enhance the financial control framework
  • Training and developing direct report to deliver service and manage other resources using analysis and judgement
  • Management of one member of staff.

You will be qualified Accountant (CA, ACCA, ACA) or Tax Advisor (CTA, ITP) with a strong technical background in tax compliance and accounting. You will ideally have experience of both VAT and corporation tax, however applications are welcome from those who have specialised in one or the other as long as you have a willingness to learn. Excellent communication skills are essential as is the ability to meet tight deadlines
