Rare In-house Tax Adviser opportunity within the expanding Tax team of this Glasgow-based Group.

Reporting to the VAT Manager, this role has responsibility for the Group’s Corporate tax and Overseas Taxation requirements – both compliance and advisory – and provides high-quality technical support for the Group’s overall VAT compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities include:

Indirect Tax

  • Supporting with the preparation of all VAT returns, Intrastat and EC sales returns for the Group and subsidiaries;
  • Maintaining Indirect tax journals and reconciling related balance sheet control accounts;
  • Ensuring relevant tax payments are made to appropriate authorities on time
  • Maintaining tax settings on internal systems in line with best practice
  • Ensure review and oversight of the Group’s indirect tax compliance in respect of overseas operations

Corporate Tax

  • Providing draft corporate tax provisions for subsidiary company financial statements
  • Completing corporation tax data packs and supporting analyses for submission to tax colleagues
  • Reviewing corporate tax computations as prepared by tax advisers
  • Providing recommendations on operational tax strategy per corporate entity (e.g. utilising tax losses, Gift Aid payments, etc.)
  • Review and provide oversight of the Group’s corporate tax activities in respect of overseas operations

Other Responsibilities:

  • Review draft personal tax computations and related returns as prepared by Group tax advisers and ensuring timeous submission
  • Support management with the management of key external relationships, including Tax Advisors, auditor and HMRC.
  • Dealing with tax enquiries, both internal and from external contacts, as well as disclosures and day-to-day correspondence
  • Providing professional tax advice on business development and change projects, ensuring compliance with existing framework and in line with effective tax planning

You will be a qualified Tax Professional (CTA/CA/ITP) or have a minimum of 3 years’ relevant tax experience of managing tax compliance processes, preparing returns and financial accounting processes in a similar role. You will be comfortable managing large data sets and have demonstrable experience of presenting and explaining financial/tax data in a clear, understandable manner. Ideally you will have knowledge of operating overseas tax for individuals and HMRC regulations relating to imports. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential.
