Our client is a vibrant, high-growth digital start-up in Glasgow focused on developing combined chemistry, hardware and software technology solutions leading to chemistry's ultimate digitisation; think “Big Data Meets Chemistry”.

As a result of growth, the business is now looking for an experienced and ambitious Linux/Unix Systems Administrator who is keen to pursue a future career in DevOps. The successful candidate will receive support and training to become the subject matter expert for more traditional DevOps requirements, as well as managing Atlassian and Office365 cloud-based development infrastructure for all staff. This role would suit an ambitious individual who would thrive working in a start-up, ‘get stuck in’ environment.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Linux systems administration
  • Deploying, automating, maintaining, securing, monitoring, and managing Google Cloud Platform-based production and quality assurance (QA) instances;
  • Release Engineering;
  • Ensuring Configuration Management of production instances;
  • System troubleshooting and problem solving across platform and application domains;
  • Generating and maintaining a set of usage statistics for users of the company’s products;
  • Ensuring cloud-based environment is operating within defined cost and performance parameters;
  • 1st line application technical support for QA and production; and
  • Maintaining, securing, monitoring and managing the Atlassian and Office65 cloud-based development infrastructure for all office staff

Key Experience:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years' experience working as a Linux/Unix administrator
  • Scripting and experience with automation in Python or bash
  • Experience of setting user permissions and setting up and removing accounts on Linux
  • Experience of continuous integration and Agile methodologies
  • A positive, 'can-do' attitude

Desireable

  • Exposure to Java, JavaScript, Kotlin and Android applications
  • Debian Linux system (ARM and Intel) administration for Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience with MySQL and GiT
  • Ideally you will have experience or knowledge of GCP technologies plus StackDriver, Deployment Manager, AppEngine, Compute Engine, and PubSub
  • Passion and ability to analyse and resolve complex infrastructure resources and application deployment issues
