Lusona’s client, a market-leading Global Corporate in the energy and utilities sector, are looking for Software Test Engineers to join their specialist team in Edinburgh. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a renowned business and play an integral role in the testing of their state-of-the-art software.

As Software Test Engineer you will be responsible for producing, implementing and maintaining the Company’s product test solutions. Developing both manual and automated tests in a range of programming languages, you will utilise Industry standard test tools to identify and debug problems at the earliest stages of development. You will also be responsible for making sure all product requirements are captured.


  • Configuring both a Windows and a Linux test system.
  • Sourcing product requirements and creating appropriate test solutions.
  • Creation and execution of both manual and automated tests.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive audit trail for all test activities.
  • Placing customer needs at the forefront of product development discussions.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current test technologies and processes.


  • A University Degree in Computer Science or Engineering (or similar)
  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working in an IT or Engineering environment
  • Working knowledge of SQL or Oracle
  • Working knowledge of Linux, Windows Server and Windows

Desirable experience:

  • Previous experience working in software test engineering developing test solutions
  • Experience using an automated GUI tool (e.g. QTP/UFT using expert view)
  • Experience of writing/executing test cases on large multi-platform systems
  • Comprehension of varied testing techniques (e.g. Black, White, Grey, Load, Security, Performance)
  • Practical working knowledge of the following languages: Perl, C# or VBScript
  • Good knowledge of web technology
  • Experience using 3rd party automation tools (e.g. SoapUI, Ranorex)
  • Experience working with Quality Centre/ALM
