Rare, career-enhancing opportunity for a Network/Security Services Engineer to join the dedicated Edinburgh-based Security Operation Centre of this global internet network security organisation. This is a fantastic chance for a talented individual to become part of the company’s sophisticated market-offering in the real-time mitigation of DDoS attacks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Triage and respond to security, installation and network incidents generated via analysis, customers or automated tools
  • Determine root cause and engage directly with customers to resolve issues in their environment
  • Research and analyse data sources to provide insight into new trends, threats and detection methods, working in collaboration with SOC colleagues to build an internal knowledge-based library
  • Working closely with colleagues to create and maintain virtual environments
  • Supporting the development and deployment of application and security components for new projects
  • Develop and improve process automation within operations and security services
  • Troubleshooting, debugging and resolution of issues

Ideally, you will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems and Networks (or equivalent)
  • 2-3 years’ experience working with systems and networks
  • CCNA, CCNP, CISSP, CISA, GIAC or other relevant industry certification
  • Good knowledge and/or experience of Linux environments
  • Understanding of Virtual Infrastructure
  • Exposure to Infrastructure design and management within mission-critical environments, e.g. VMWare, KVM
  • Experience using Wireshark (or similar)
  • Experience using Splunk or other SIEMs

Desirable skills:

  • Scripting in Python (2 & 3) and/or Bash
  • Knowledge of routing and switching protocols
  • Application and network security fundamentals, e.g. encryption, best practices, NIST, OWASP

In partnership with the required technical skillset, the successful individual must also demonstrate high levels of enthusiasm and determination to succeed. Strong communication skills are essential, as is the ability and willingness to challenge and innovate existing processes. Upon completion of the initial training period, there will also be opportunity for regular home-working.
