Indirect Tax Assistant Manager sought for the market leading Scottish Indirect Tax practice of this Big 4 firm of Chartered Accountants

Based in Edinburgh and working closely with the Senior Management team you will have you the opportunity to develop relationships with clients as you guide them through  the complexities of indirect tax matters. This involves working with clients to advise on the correct VAT treatment of transactions, helping to ensure efficient VAT compliance at both a detailed and strategic level whilst minimising any risk of interest or penalties.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Principal contact with clients on day to day indirect tax matters
  • Involvement in indirect tax advisory work (both domestic and international) on client portfolio
  • Discussing new tax issues and opportunities to clients
  • Working with specialists to deliver expertise to the local market
  • Carry out VAT reviews to identify tax risks and opportunities
  • Supervising the work of junior members of staff
  • Sound knowledge of UK VAT legislation
  • Ensuring fees are raised regularly, identifying situations where overruns can be billed and assisting Senior Managers and Partners in billing for advisory work
  • Project managing cross border teams and UK client service teams on advisory projects as required
  • Ability to keep up to date technically

Experienced required:

  • Prior Indirect Tax experience
  • Ideally CTA / ACA / CA / ACCA qualified or equivalent
  • Ability to work as part of a team and show initiative to drive projects forward
  • Strong inter-personal skills
  • Inquisitive with attention to detail
  • Practical approach to problem solving
  • Personal effectiveness and commitment 
  • Client focused and commercially aware
