Data Governance Senior Analyst required for the Enterprise Data Management team of highly reputable Financial Services company in Edinburgh.

This newly-created role is all about establishing and promoting the data governance initiative within the data operations team and wider business, as well as carrying out existing tasks. You will play a key role in helping the Data Management team manage data quality in their systems; as well as in encouraging and helping business users to ensure control of their client data; and understand its relevance, impact and usage for BAU tasks and project work.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Establish and promote data quality standards, policies and procedures across the business
  • Provide technical assurance for the implementation of the data governance policy within the business
  • Build effective relationships with client data users, establishing and promoting ownership and accountability of client data across core internal systems
  • Coach and develop colleagues to ensure data governance policies and practices are embedded within the workstream, providing support with technical requirements and stakeholder relationships
  • Create data dictionaries for key client systems and embed best practice for maintenance within the work stream, developing rules for their use in the business
  • Identify data issues as they arise, performing root cause analysis to address them. Advise management on stakeholder related data issues and risks and help develop strategies to manage them effectively
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of relevant policies pertaining to data classification and management. Provide support regarding best practice to follow for data management relating to client & other third-party data
  • Perform several regular and ad hoc data-related tasks and processes that support such data responsibilities
  • Support any day-to-day client data issues raised by users; act as a subject matter expert for reports and information produced from processes carried out by the team
  • Create and maintain documents for existing processes, carrying out analysis identifying areas of improvement
  • Provide expertise in the use of the relevant operational systems related to the tasks and processes performed by the team
  • Provide back-up and ad hoc support for the wider team as required

You will be an experienced Data Governance / Data Management specialist with a passion for data and improving data quality. You will ideally have experience within a Financial Services environment and have prior experience of implementing data governance policy and framework within a business.  You will be able to demonstrate the ability to relate to staff at all levels, with strong customer service skills. Strong communication skills are imperative as is the ability to co-ordinate and manage multiple tasks and projects. The role requires a high level of enthusiasm, self-motivation with influencing capabilities to champion data management best practice.
