Corporate Tax Compliance Assistant Manager required for the specialist Tax team of this Big 4 firm of Chartered Accountants in Glasgow. This role would suit an experienced tax professional looking for a flexible and rewarding opportunity or a strong Tax Senior looking to take the next step in their career.

Working closely with tax processors in Glasgow and other offices, you will be responsible for reviewing corporate tax computation and returns for a diverse portfolio of clients, from mid-market to FTSE listed groups, from a variety of sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of clients and ensure tax computations have been prepared to a high standard and submitted to HMRC to deadlines
  • Liaising with clients and junior members of the team at all stages of the tax process; from understanding client requirements at the start of each compliance cycle through to submission stage.
  • Providing tax technical advice and instruction where necessary, including advice on HMRC correspondence and preparing tax accounting disclosures.
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues, demonstrating competence in specific technical areas including complex capital versus revenue treatment, pension and share scheme adjustments, basic transfer pricing and UK GAAP tax accounting for single entities and simple groups
  • Visits to client premises, as well as other local offices when appropriate
  • Reviewing draft tax computation to determine appropriate treatment of items and determining if more information is required
  • Liaising directly with clients to obtain relevant information and ensuring this is communicated with tax processing colleagues to update draft computation
  • Preparing tax technical analysis and calling on other specialists to prepare or review analysis as necessary
  • Preparing high quality and technically accurate final tax computation for review by senior management and for sending to client
  • Building and maintaining strong, effective relationships with both clients and local tax teams, as well as offshore functions.
  • Supporting with business development by identifying potential client requirements and liaising with appropriate business units.

We would welcome applications from qualified professionals (ATT/CTA/CA) and those who are qualified by experience. You must have experience of reviewing corporate tax computations and returns, gained within professional practice. You will demonstrate commitment to maintaining and developing your technical expertise. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential and you must be an excellent team player and influencer. Proficiency in Alphatax or relevant tax software would be beneficial.
